what happened to wishboniko’s yt channel??

13 Jul

My heart dropped when I went to wishy’s channel and I’m told that it’s not available! Though I’m not following her current subs for ‘Tas Rak’, I do re-watch many of her subbed lakorns from time to time, like I’m doing with ‘Suay Rerd Cherd Sod’ now. Thankfully wishy’s videos are still up on yt when I search for the respective titles but I wonder if I should start dl-ing Sawan Biang those that I really like?

Anyway, I had a good laugh with SRCS over my lunch break. Nop is major failz as Pim’s boyfriend but no doubt he is hilarious when pitting his wits against Khuan. I’m at ep6 now and though Khuan wouldn’t admit it over her dead body, she does appreciate what Nop has done for her and is including him in the tiny circle of people she wants to be nice to. I think it’s cute that Khuan is also extending her help to Pim as she views Pim as an extension of Nop … which again shows how lousy Nop is as a boyfriend. Everyone is trying to help Pim except her boyfriend! I thought Pim moped too much the first time I watched SRCS but now I think she has every reason to be unhappy. Her boyfriend is disinterested, her mom is deep in debt due to gambling and trying to pimp her out to every other rich guy, her boyfriend’s brother is interested in her and she’s also got a crazy girl who’s interested in the brother trying to wreck her career. I’d be pretty mope-y too!

I haven’t been reading the manga, just keeping track of the plot on bleachness … but the colour spread in the latest issue is #)$%*!@ good. It’s great to see all my favourite characters who have been missing since the fullbringer arc and in colour at that! Hope they’ll return to the manga soon. You are missed Rukia!!

re-watching Suay Rerd Cherd Sod

1 Jul

I suddenly realise it’s not that I haven’t been watching tv lately, it’s just that I’ve been spending most of my evenings after work watching crime dramas since getting paid tv a couple of months back. CSI: Las Vegas/Miami/NY, Criminal Minds, Law & Order:SVU/Criminal Intent, The Glades, Numb3rs … heck, I even watched the episodes of Sherlock and White Collar which I’ve already seen.

I love crime/detective shows but I guess I’d been overdosing on them and I finally hit saturation point last night. I cut short Criminal Minds and was looking for something funny when I remember ‘Suay Rerd Cherd Sod’. It was one of the funnier lakorns in recent memory so I re-watched epi1 and it got me laughing in no time. It’s not without its flaws and I’ve mentioned them in my previous posts on the lakorn but now that I know how the drama progresses, I simply skip to the funny bits. There are a lot of typical slap-kiss lakorn scenes, like being trapped in the lift, guy tying up girl, guy throwing girl in the pool, girl slapping guy but we get the funny version here instead of the usual melodrama. The nang’ek KhuanUma is a spoilt and bratty Hi-So model and it’s hard to root for her in the beginning but she does learn and get better later on. If anyone is looking for some light hearted stuff, you can head to wishboniko’s channel on yt and check out SRCS.

I’ve also finished ep2 of Material Queen. The production crew has spared no expenses on the clothes, the jewellery, filming in Paris etc and they all translate beautifully on screen but I’m not yet feeling a connection with the main characters. The first 2 episodes seem to be setting up stage for the main couple and the real stuff happens when they return to Taiwan and end up living near each other. Hopefully I can feel the spark by the next couple of episodes if not I might drop it.

Well well, both SRCS and KRN have ended. As you can probably tell from my previous posts, I liked SRCS a lot but unfortunately, the last couple of episodes weren’t that great which pulled down the overall ‘like’ factor for this drama. Khwan and Nop were still cute together, but everything else was just lame. Why doesn’t anyone think of contacting the police when there’s trouble (e.g. kidnapping) and then when everything is over, the police magically shows up when there’s no use for them anymore??? And in the final scene, why on earth was Khwan wearing a long flowing dress with a tiara on her head when she’s at a freakin’ sheep farm???? Janie looked pretty in that dress but it was totally out of place.

Like what someone said on a forum, SRCS is a stress-free lakorn. I can’t take any of the villains seriously so I didn’t feel any tension when Khwan appeared to be in trouble and while Khwan and Nop like to bicker with each other, there’s no angst in their relationship. My verdict on SRCS: Definitely a stress-free experience with some good laughs but it’s not a classic in my heart due to the weak plot and characterization.

Nan did redeem herself in KRN and she got her happy ending! Nan was the focus of the story so seems like she is both the nang’ek and nang’rai after all. For me, KRN was one of those could-have-been-good lakorns because there was so much the scriptwriters could have done with Nan but didn’t. If she was to be the ‘rose without thorns’ i.e. a rose inside but without thorns to protect her from bad influences, they need to balance out her evil actions with some goodness on her part however small, to show that she is worth redeeming. But Nan was just being a bitch throughout to the point where it’s hard for anyone (in the drama or the viewers) to have sympathy for her. The ending was a tad rush but seeing how I have a soft spot for Nan and Sarat, I’m pleased to see scenes of them being happy with their kid. I really like Ploy’s look in the final scene, the way her hair was done and the clothes she was wearing. Haa, I guess the ‘good wife look’ was to contrast with her wild/slutty way of dressing in the past? Speaking of clothes, Yaya is young and sweet-looking, why is she always wearing clothes that make her look 10 years older? Maybe the producers wanted her to look more mature in the larkon but sheesh, couldn’t the wardrobe people have picked something more stylish?

If I’m not hot and perfect, I couldn’t do it

Suay Rerd Cherd Sod is working so much for me perhaps because I hadn’t expected it to. I didn’t fancy the characters or the plot much in the beginning but I continued watching because it at least provided some comic relief and it’s not a bad way to spend my free time (I could fast-forward the boring parts anyway). Glad I stuck with it because it’s proving to be a very entertaining lakorn even if a little lacking in emotional depth.

I like how there are no third parties fighting for the pra’nang’s affections, so Khwan and Nop can concentrate on being cute with each other without angst, keeping in line with the overall feel of this lakorn. Those two losers that are always hanging around Khwan… erm, frankly they are quite creepy, I wonder how the hot and perfect Khwan can stand them hovering around her all the time. As for Pim, I’m glad she didn’t turn into a bitter/vengeful ex-girlfriend though I find it unconvincing how fast she managed to get over Nop and be friendly with KhwanUma. I’m just totally ignoring the fact that Nop and Pim were together for so many years because they sure don’t feel so!

The plot isn’t very believable but it’s a lot of fun and it’s great that Janie and Film have fun while acting too because it translates into hilarious scenes in the lakorn without feeling forced. According to the cast interview on Ratree Samosorn, Film ad-libs a lot and I must say he comes up with very funny and creative one-liners for Nop to insult (mainly) Khwan with. And Janie … it’s the first time I’m watching her lakorn, but she has certainly impressed with her professionalism. I love all her outfits and looks in the lakorn (which goes through like 3,4 changes an episode) and from the interviews, she really put a lot of thought and effort into designing the image for Khwan, a spoilt Hi-So model. And most importantly, she has no qualms about acting in ‘embarrassing’ scenes and she gives it her all each time, the latest being Khwan’s seduction of Nop in epi 11/12. Janie is a hoot dancing to old Thai music and when she asked if Nop is ‘ready to love her’ after watching her dance, Nop retorted with ‘No, I’m become sexually disabled’. XD Oh yes, I’m reminded of the dog Cindy in epi 12 … the dog is also the source of funny dialogue between Khwan and Nop.
I think the final 2 episodes are showing next week. Aww, Khwan and Nop will be missed. I’ve mentioned this before but I need to reiterate, Art Pasut is hot stuff. Heeh.

I think Wanida is showing after SRCS, but I’m mostly likely giving it a pass. Aff hasn’t impressed me much in her other lakorns after JLR, and Wanida’s plot sounds bit blah. Rabum Duang Dao is gonna show soon as well, with Ploy playing nang’rai AGAIN but hey, she does a great job and judging from the teasers, the nang’ek is no pushover for once, so we should be seeing lots of cat fights.

mixed lakorn update

5 Aug

As expected, I’m not digging the plot for Rose Without Thorns. I’m admittedly biased towards the character Nan because I like Ploy, but I’m running out of excuses for her. It would have been better if the scriptwriters had played up the revenge angle as the motivation for Nan to make life miserable for Nuch instead of just writing her as a one-dimensional bitch/slut. So I’m gonna leave that lakorn aside till it’s finished playing so I can quickly run through the remaining episodes just to get a gist of the story. I do like the opening song a lot though, which judging from the translated lyrics, seem to be talking about Nan instead of the supposed nang’ek Nuch.

Suay Rerd Cherd Sod however, has been growing on me. Janie and Film are so adorable together and there are many funny/sarcastic lines that got me sniggering. There are many side characters I don’t like and some stuff I felt were not so well-written but at least Nop and Khuan are an enjoyable watch as the focus of the story. I think Janie acted in a light hearted drama with Ken before? Might check that out… I like Janie after watching SRCS!

I might have mentioned my intense dislike for Kaew Tah Pee before. Anyway, I was so traumatised by that lakorn I didn’t want to watch anything with Cherry or Tik for a long time but recently I gave Cherry another shot with Mae Ka Khanom Wan, where she plays a totally different character. Kudos to Cherry for playing a tomboyish character so well but unfortunately, her role as Pai still annoys me by being so rash and stubborn. As for our pra’ek Mart … he definitely has the built and looks (reminded me of Ken) but his acting is so stiff!! I like most of the side characters for a change though, from Pai’s hilarious relatives down to Wat’s bodyguards. Louis Scott is a pleasant surprise as Pai’s best friend in the first ‘happy’ role I’m seeing him in.

Ploy totally sizzles as the seductive Nan and even though she’s the nang’rai here, she has outshone the other characters in the first 2 episodes and I believe her character will continue to take center-stage throughout the lakorn! Actually that seems to be a problem with some lakorns where the conflicts are almost entirely created by the villians, which means said villians need more screen time and if not properly handled, the focus could shift from the main characters to the supporting cast. A couple of examples I could think of offhand are “Namtan Mai” (Ploy also stole the ATeam’s thunder there) and “Chaleuy Suk”.

Of course, it’s not like I’m complaining for “Rose Without Thorns” since I’m totally into Sarat and Nan.

Some behind the scenes clips of Ploy and Tah
Their wedding! Ploy is supppper pretty here. 😉

Nan being a nice wifeynot

Nan at the hospital after having Sarat’s kid! I didn’t see any scenes of a pregnant Nan in the teasers, just her being a total bitch to Nuch. Haaa. I know she succesfully gets Sarat to break of his engagement to Nuch and marry her, then tries to seduce Rome (STILL cannot remember his character’s name) – unsuccessfully this time though and there was a scene of her watching Nuch’s wedding with Rome with flames practically shooting out of her eyes. It wasn’t evident from the teasers what happens later, so I presume Nan gets her comeuppance eventually, gets pregnant with Sarat along the way and she realises Sarat is the one that truly loves her??

Suay Rerd Cherd Sod” is getting more interesting and I’m liking the interaction between Nop and Khuan now that they are less antagonistic towards each other. Though they continue to bicker with each other, I feel that the trust is building up between them. The scene where Nop ties Khuan up and drags her to his private villa (which btw was impossible. They were at a mall in the previous scene, so how could Nop tie Khuan up in public without being arrested for kidnapping? anyway…) reminded me so much of Sawan Biang. They even fell into the pool together later, again reminded me of Sawan Biang… but of course, this is the funny version with Nop and Khuan smacking each other in the pool.

Nop is a nice guy, but he really is a lousy boyfriend to Pim. I’m not a fan of mopey Pim but what she said was true – Nop wasn’t there to protect her when she was hurt by others. By spending time with Khuan (even if for work) instead of caring for Pim, he’s showing where his priorities are. Bottom line, he just doesn’t love Pim that much.

Bleach latest chapter is delayed this week but judging from the spoilers, we gonna have some Gin/Matsu moments. Gin appears to have his own agenda (no surprise) but is he only trying to protect Matsumoto by keeping her away, or is he planning to double cross Aizen to become the ultimate boss, or is he really one of the good guys planted beside Aizen? The theory that Gin is working undercover ala “Infernal Affairs” has been floating around for the longest time but I do hope that he stays the self-serving villain that he appears to be. We lack good villains!

There are still funny moments in epi 3 of “Suay Rerd Cherd Sod”, but the stupidity of the characters makes me go argggg as I watch. Why in the world does Nop think kissing Khuan in public (on 2 occasions at that) is a good way of getting back at her? Yes, it’s embarrassing to Khuan but isn’t he putting his relationship with Pim on the line by doing so? Seriously, if my boyfriend tells me he’s only trying to tease another girl by kissing said girl, I will give him a few good slaps. Aaaaaand then there’s Pim. Her constant sad-face is irritating me and granted, Khuan was mean to make the models do their walk 10 times, but it wasn’t like Khuan singled Pim out for the walking. Everyone did the same thing so why the hell is Pim moaning that Khuan is targeting her? To top it off, Pim’s twisted ankle has nothing to do with Khuan so why is Nop ‘taking revenge’ for Pim?? meh, I don’t know, it’s funny to see Nop and Khuan take turns sabotaging each other but the reasons leading up to their confrontations are so lame. Looks like Vee is turning ‘evil’ but I’m not caring much for his storyline so I fastforwarded all his parts with Da. Oops.

Rose Without Thorns is out! Ploy’s character Nantawadee reminds me a lot of the evil girl she played in Namtan Mai, heck even the house she stays in looks the same (or maybe it’s just my memory failing). I really hope for Nantawadee be a less one-dimensional villain who only exists to make life a sob fest for the nang’ek and hopefully she gets true love in the end too! Haa, but what are the chances of a happy ending for the evil girl? From the synopsis, Sarat (Tah) will truly love Nantawadee so fingers crossed that there will be redemption waiting at the end for her. Speaking of Tah, after going gay in Namtan Mai, he’s looking spiffy and manly in his military uniform! As for the main leads, Rome is handsome and Yaya looks sweet. Erm, yea, that sums up my impression so far.

“Xxxholic” has gone monthly which means a longer wait between updates but at least CLAMP are giving us more pages. I use to ship DouWata so hard but since “Rou” started, I’ve been ambivalent about where CLAMP is taking their relationship. The DouWata tag-team worked well under the supervision of Yuuko, with them balancing each other out but now, the relationship feels more like a one-way street with Doumeki giving and giving and giving some more without any obvious appreciation from Watanuki. Yes, I know Watanuki is in a funk because of what happened to Yuuko and yes, I understand that he tries to distance himself from Doumeki (and even others from the ‘outside’ world like Kohane to avoid dragging them into this situation that he chose to be in) but is it really that hard to show an itsy-bitsy bit of thanks for what Doumeki has been doing for the past 10 friggin’ years? And it has been 10 years, should be pretty obvious by now Doumeki isn’t going anywhere. To be fair, Watanuki does care for Doumeki in a round-about-way by cooking for Doumeki and protecting Doumeki subtly (e.g. the ring and putting a barrier around Doumeki instead of himself in the latest confrontation with the dark forces) but his whole general attitude towards Doumeki doesn’t sit well with me. Then there’s Doumeki. I love him, I truly do but since “Rou”, there hasn’t been much development character wise. His entire life is devoted to Watanuki, everything and I mean everything revolves around Watanuki and while that was part of his charm, this character is starting to look a little flat. Doumeki is losing himself. Here’s hoping CLAMP is actually leading up to something big from here.

As for Bleach, I’m still catching each chapter faithfully every week but I’ve kinda lost the plot now. Just happy to see bishie!Aizen walk around with Gin. Matsumoto’s showdown with Gin looks to be coming up soon and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn’t see the end of my favourite villian. And where’s Rukia???

The first 2 episodes of “Suay Rerd Cherd Sod” was funny and enjoyable though the bratty KhwanUma (Janie) isn’t as likable as Alin in SSH. Khwan’s ‘battles’ with Nop (Film) gave me some good laughs and I especially liked their first face-off in the lift but Khwan is honestly a self-centered bitch. I’ve not been impressed by any characters so far: Pim is too mopey, Da is weird, Toiting is very annoying, the Uncle-Cousin villian duo screams cliché, and Nop is too run-of-the-mill. Vee (Art) though not any more spectacular a character, is eye-candy for me so I enjoyed his scenes. Lol.

I wasn’t planning on watching “Kuroshitsuji II” ‘cos with an entirely new cast, it’s practically another anime with a similar setting but surprise, surprise, the anime production crew sprang a surprise on viewers by reviving Sebestian and Ciel! I’m not sure how the story will progress and if Sebestian/Ciel will continue to take centre stage or if this is a 2,3 episode special thing to placate the fangirls but anyhow, having them appear again is already more than I had expected so I’m pleased. 🙂 The new young master/demon pairing of Alois and Claude isn’t doing anything for me now. From the patchy bits that was shown in epi 1, Alois went through some pretty shitty things but that still doesn’t negate the fact that he’s psycho and me no like child-psychos. Claude… well, he reminds me too much of William. Sebby and Ciel are wayyyyy much more love… please stick around longer in season 2!!!

Lakorn wise, I think I’m gonna start on “Suay Rerd Cherd Sod (I’m hot, perfect and single)” once more subbed episodes come out. I’ve never watched any of Janie’s lakorns but judging from the teaser, it seems like the sort of drama that I’d like. The title is already LOL-worthy. haah.
