Thai pop digest #1

26 Apr

Lakorns OST was my gateway to Thai pop but the language remained a barrier for me to get to know artistes/songs which don’t get the exposure through lakorns. These days when I’m in the mood for some new Thai pop, I surf around youtube, linking from one song to the other and giving random singers a try. But again, if the singer and/or song doesn’t have an English name it can be hard for me to find that song again when I want another listen so I’m doing this Thai pop digest series as a way for me to keep a record of those songs as well as to recommend Thai pop to those who are not familiar with it. Enjoy~

My introduction to New and Jiew was from 2014 Samee Tee Tra’s OST. I initially thought they were solo artists who teamed up for the song but turns out they are a duo. I’ve enjoyed all their ballads so far and some of their songs are subbed on the GMM Grammy International yt channel.  Continue reading

孤獨的總和 The Sum of Loneliness lyrics

11 Jan

From the OST of Taiwanese drama ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’. I have been struck by the inability to write bug and as much as I’m loving TPoH, my fingers hover over the keyboard, unsure of how to put my feelings down into words. So here’s a translation of a song instead.

By2 不哭了 [No More Tears] lyrics / translation / pinyin

15 Oct

[updated with pinyin]

By2’s ballads have fairly simple and straighforward lyrics but somehow they always manage to catch me at the right time and resonate with me. When I first heard their latest ballad ‘No More Tears’ I thought it didn’t match up to their previous one ‘You Don’t Know Me‘ which I liked a lot but over this weekend, this song just … fit. Let’s not cry any more.

If I knew – Baan Sai Thong ost

6 Aug

bst1901

If I knew you love me, I would not have proposed you on behalf of Than Tom.

If I knew you love me, I would not have left.

If I knew you love me.

If I knew you loved me, even if only a little

You should have let me know that day

My heart that has always been waiting

Might have found somewhere to belong to

Just softly say, my dearest I’ll never leave

Our hearts would not be tormented and broken like this

If I knew you loved me, even if only a little

You should have let me know that day

My heart that has always been waiting

Might not be at a loss and leave my love

I translated this from Chinese subs so accuracy is probably at 70% only. If anyone can offer a better translation, please leave a comment!

A Hundred Thousand Millilitres of Tears – Tanya Chua

4 Jul

ETA: I’m surprised by the number of hits this post is getting. Good to know that this song is getting noticed from being played to death on zzsf. lol. I’ve updated the lyrics with hanyu pinyin for people who want to sing along but can’t read Chinese. Enjoy~

It’s been a busy busy week! Only had time to catch up with the first few episodes of ‘Dream Makers’ and I’ll probably do an impression post this weekend. For now, here’s a translation of a song from the drama soundtrack, lyrics by one of my favourite lyricist Xiao Han and performed movingly by Tanya Chua who also composed the melody.

Dok Soke ost

21 Aug

Scenes of Pong with child!Dok Soke feels kinda wrong when you know they are the main pairing but once Dok Soke grows up, it’s hitting all my kinks. I didn’t realise I have a thing for older man/younger lady in my OTP till Poochom/Jieb in Mia Taeng and I’m sooo tempted by Pong in Dok Soke. However, I already know this lakorn has the shittiest bangs-head-on-wall ending ever and my rational side is keeping me from jumping into this pit. Ehhh, at least I really like the ost?

Anyone knows of dramas with similar set-ups to distract me with?

ETA: Getting round my predicament of wanting to watch but not wanting to waste time by skimming through recaps on darknesslakorns then picking out only Asunai/Dok Soke bits to watch. Oweeeeee, Pong is hot!
